Amouraq, Part 7

EXT. BLOODY RIVER. LATE AFTERNOON.

Stephen and Emily have become a little more confident about the situation. They come to the river and immediately halt, sensing that this river might have a trap in it.

STEPHEN:
Know any helpful spells?

EMILY:
Well, I could turn us
into temporary fish, but
I don’t think we should
go into the water at all.
I could make a bridge, but
I don’t remember how to do
that. I know there’s a way
to magically transport our
bodies from one side to
another. I’m trying to-

Before she can finish speaking, a giant hand formed by the water reaches out to get them! They try to run, but the giant hand snatches them. They try to escape, but the force of the water is too strong. The fist rises in the air and starts to fall.

EMILY:
(shouting over the noise)
What do we do?

STEPHEN:
Change us into a temporary
cloud!

EMILY:
What? Why?

STEPHEN:
Trust me!

Emily swishes her right hand above both of them.

EMILY:
Cloud.

They changed into fluffy cloud versions of themselves. Since clouds are just water vapor, the hand couldn’t grip them anymore. The hand lowered itself down as a small breeze carried them across the river.

EMILY:
(as a cloud)
Brilliant, Stephen! I
think we’re actually
gaining strength from
the vapor it’s emitting!

STEPHEN:
(as a cloud)
Actually, that might be
our downfall when we change
back into ourselves and fall.

EMILY:
(as a cloud)
I forgot about that!

They change back into their human selves and land on the ground on their bottoms with a thud.

STEPHEN:
See, I’m not perfect either.

EMILY:
I was too worried about
falling to conjure some
cushions.

STEPHEN:
If we were true clouds,
how come we could still
talk?

EMILY:
That’s just it, we weren’t
true clouds. Magic isn’t
always perfect.

They try to get up but their bottoms are too sore.

STEPHEN:
Boy, Xavier is a real
pain in the ass!

EMILY:
(laughs)
Oh okay, James Bond.

STEPHEN:
(laughs)
I’ve never been compared
to him before.

EMILY:
Really? Never?

STEPHEN:
As often as you got compared
to Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

They continue on their conversation as they leave the scene.

EXT. DRAGON’S LAIR. LATE AFTERNOON

They had time for a small conversation when they came to a giant, rocky cave whose contents are hidden by darkness. The two of them suddenly come back to reality and remember the dangers they are facing.

STEPHEN:
I know all too well from
fairy tales that a dragon
must live in there.

They see smoke billowing from the cave, and before they can decide whether or not to run away, the creature emerges. Not only is it a dragon, but it is a three headed dragon! Stephen shoots the dragon, but the bullet ricochets off of its scaly hide. It turns all three heads to him and ambles to him. Stephen picks up a long tree branch and wields it like a sword at its head. The branch doesn’t hurt the dragon but annoys and distracts it. Emily picks up a rock and throws it the dragon. The dragon turns its attention to her. Emily runs clockwise around it, and Stephen does the same in the opposite direction. The three heads don’t know what to focus on and become dizzy. Emily stops and points her clawed hand at it and says a spell.

EMILY:
Camio oss!

The dragon shrank into the size of a baseball. Stephen smiles as he steps on it to kill it.

STEPHEN:
I never thought I’d ever
kill a dragon! You’re
getting so much better at
this rescuing thing!

He looks at the bottom of his shoe and gets disgusted. Emily titters as he wipes it off on the grass.
