Amouraq, Part Five

EXT. AMOURAQ BEACH. LATE AFTERNOON.

After quite a bit of swimming, Emily and Stephen come to a sandy beach. They collapse on there for a little while to recover from their exhaustion.

STEPHEN

That pilot worked for

Xavier?

EMILY

If you used him before,

he was probably kidnapped.

One of Xavier’s assassins

tried to kill us.

Stephen sits up and brings out his cell phone while Emily searches through her bag. He figures out that his phone has sustained way too much water damage to work, so he chucks it into the ocean.

EMILY

Stephen!

Stephen turns around to look at her.

EMILY

My magic book is gone!

STEPHEN

That’s not good. Why would

they take it?

EMILY

Maybe there are spells in

there that they don’t know.

That was my father’s!

(tears well in her eyes)

Stephen touches her arm sympathetically.

STEPHEN

Don’t worry, we’ll find it.

Whoever did this is probably

waiting for us somewhere. We

should figure out where we are.

(They both get up and walk towards a nearby forest.)

EMILY

Here’s a sign!

Stephen walks over to where she is. There is an old, wooden sign that reads: Hidden Forest.

EMILY

Hidden forest?

STEPHEN

Of course! This must be the

hidden part of Amouraq that

only King Alexander had ever

been to! We were heading

towards the island anyways, and

I’m sure if this was a part

that the government knew of,

there’d be some kind of

security, right?

EMILY

You know, I think you’re

right.

(laughs)

That assassin tried to

prevent us from coming

here, but instead he led

us right to it! Welcome

to my country.

STEPHEN

(laughs, then gestures to the forest)

Shall we?

EMILY

Yeah, let’s go. King

Patrick is counting on us.

EXT. WHISPERING PINE GROVE. LATE AFTERNOON.

Stephen and Emily have been walking in the forest for about five minutes cautiously since they don’t know what to expect. Suddenly, they hear someone sobbing nearby. Stephen instinctively whips out his gun and points it at the direction of the noise, but he can’t find anyone. Emily and Stephen walk around the area where the sound is coming from, but they don’t see anyone around except each other. Next to a pine tree, it gets so loud they feel like they are right next to it, but no one is around.

STEPHEN

Alright, I give up. What’s

making that noise?

WHIPSERING PINE (O.S.)

I am!

They spin around looking for the body that the voice came from. It almost sounded like the tree was talking to them, but they silently reason that isn’t possible.

EMILY

Is the tree talking?

WHISPERING PINE (O.S.)

Yes!

The face of the WHISPERING PINE now appears on the tree that almost looks a carving of a woman’s face, but it moves like a normal one.

STEPHEN

Oh, I get it. A weeping willow.

WHISPERING PINE

I’m a whispering pine you

knit-whit!

(sobs)

I apologize. I’m just being

a little short with you

because I’m quite scared.

STEPHEN

Of Xavier Ryder?

WHISPERING PINE

(nods)

He’s planted all kinds of

booby-traps incase you made

it this far.

EMILY

Can you tell us what

kind of traps there are?

WHISPERING PINE

(shakes head)

All I know is he’s trying to

kill you and take over Amouraq.

He’d tear down this forest if he

did. Where would all of the

magical creatures go?

EMILY

They’re not going anywhere

‘cause we’re not gonna let

that happen!

WHISPERING PINE

I fear for your safety.

Emily and Stephen look at each other searching for a response to that but find none.

EMILY

Are you sure you can’t tell
us what kind of traps there

are?

WHISPERING PINE

I’m kind of rooted to this spot.

Although, I did see one of Xavier’s

mistresses mending one of his

worker’s hands. Apparently he

handled some kind of monster. But

if one of those lug-heads can

handle it, it’s probably not

something very hard. It’d be wise

for you to go before the sun sets.

You might have more of a chance in

the light.

STEPHEN

Right. Well, thank you. Let’s

go, Emily.

(They leave the whispering pine there sobbing.)

Amouraq, Part Four

INT.STEPHEN’S JET. AFTERNOON.

Emily and Stephen are in his private jet, which looks almost like a modernly furnished apartment. It has a couch and a plasma television for a small living room, a small kitchen, a round, white dining table, a bed on one end, and a couple of normal airplane seats on the other end. As Emily checks out his plane, Stephen watches her and becomes more curious about the magical world.

STEPHEN

How do your powers work?

EMILY

Well, it all depends on

how I position my hands

and my own concentration.

If I say the spell in

English, or any language

that’s not Amouraqian, the

spell is just temporary. If

I say it in Amouraqian, it’s

either permanent or lasts

until the desired effect.

Some really powerful spells

must be assisted by nature,

other people, etc. And it’s

not like we can do anything;

there are restrictions. Like

that truth spell, we can

only do that temporarily.

I think there’s a spell out

there that will last for

about fifteen minutes. My

father left me this book to

teach me all about it.

Emily pulls a book out of her bag and puts it on the table in front of Stephen. Stephen thumbs through it interestedly

STEPHEN

Wow, magic is a lot more

complicated than I thought.

EMILY

Yeah, like most things,

movies and t.v. makes it

more glamorous than it

actually is.

STEPHEN

You know, I think there

are coses out there that

suspect that magic is real.

EMILY

Yes, accidents happen. We

try to keep it secret, but

sometimes we slip or a

magical creature escapes

the island. Stuff like that

ends up in fairy tales or

hokey magazines. Amouraq has

a whole government branch

to keep this stuff supposedly

fictional to the rest of

the world.

STEPHEN

Isn’t Amouraq a tourist

attraction?

EMILY

Part of it is. You need

special permission to

enter the residential

part. The government

makes sure that tourists

don’t mess with anything

dangerous or strange.

STEPHEN

So, other than hanging

garlic over their windows,

the residents of Amouraq live

a normal life. They have jobs

and school and all that.

EMILY

Yeah. We may be able to

do magic, but we’re still

human.

Stephen appears to have no more questions, so Emily continues marveling his plane.

EMILY

This is such a nice

plane you’ve got! You’re

so lucky!

STEPHEN

Meh. I have to have one

‘cause I’m constantly

going on missions. It

saves money on airfare,

and it’s safer since I

don’t need to worry about

endangering other passengers.

Or myself for that matter.

My safety is top priority

for my department.

EMILY

Wow. Sounds like you’re

really important.

STEPHEN

You’re important too. You’re

going to be queen someday.

EMILY

Well, maybe I am.

STEPHEN

(looks at her very seriously)

You will be queen someday. I

Promise I won’t let anything

happen to you.

EMILY

(blushes but not convinced)

There are some things that

you can’t control. Xavier has

a number of warlocks working

for him, and they kill their

victims in the worst possible

ways. The scariest and most

hurtful is when he makes all

of his victim’s organs and

bones slowly and painfully

turn into liquid until the

victim is nothing more than

a pile of muck. We don’t have

the ability to regenerate a

dead body, and even if we

could, often times he doesn’t

leave a body for us to burry.

Xavier will stop at nothing

to reach his goals, and he’ll

destroy anyone that stands in

his way.

STEPHEN

You’re worried he’ll kill

me in the way you said.

EMILY

Yes, very much so.

STEPHEN

Don’t. I’ve been on

tons of missions where

there are traps and weapons

that I knew very little

about, but in the end,

anything can be overcome.

EMILY

I’m still worried.

STEPHEN

Please don’t be afraid. I’ve

never failed a mission before,

and I certainly won’t fail one

this important. You need to

relax more. Watch some t.v. or

get a snack. You’ll feel

better.

Stephen pulls out a handheld game system and starts playing it. Emily stares at him incredulously.

EMILY

How do you do this?

STEPHEN

Do what?

EMILY

Relax when you’re about

to step into complete

danger?

STEPHEN

Meh. You get used to it.

Emily stares at him like he’s completely crazy.

STEPHEN

Well, of course I’m scared,

but if I let my fear

overcome me, I can’t do

my job. If you’re going to

help me, you’re going to

have to learn to do the same.

EMILY

Okay, I’ll try. Do you have

any ice cream in here?

STEPHEN

I think there’s some in

the freezer.

Emily goes to the freezer and looks through it.

EMILY

There’s no chocolate?

STEPHEN

No, I’m allergic.

Emily serves herself some vanilla ice cream, waves her hand over it, and says a spell.

EMILY

Convertae choco!

The ice cream changes into chocolate.

STEPHEN

Cheater!

EMILY

How is that cheating?

STEPHEN

No, I’m talking about

this game.

EMILY

Oh.

(laughs)

INT./EXT. STEPHEN’S PLANE. LATE AFTERNOON.

Stephen is looking in the refrigerator while Emily reads her magic book in the living room.

STEPHEN

We should have dinner

now since we probably won’t

have time later. What would

you like to eat?

EMILY

(joking)

Ooh, filet mignon.

STEPHEN

You got it!

EMILY

Really?

STEPHEN

Yeah, just conjure yourself

some.

Emily pretends to glare at him, and Stephen grins as he brings out some food to make a quick meal. Suddenly, they feel a huge jolt! They can see out the window that they’re moving much faster than they should be!

EMILY

What’s going on?

Stephen opens the door to the cockpit, and Emily follows him. They see that nothing is there! Stephen gets into the pilot’s seat and tries to steer the plane, but he can’t move any of the controls.

STEPHEN

It won’t move! It’s jammed

or something!

EMILY

It must be under a spell.

Emily sticks her right hand in the air like a school child might.

EMILY

Slodidium!

The plane slows down.

EMILY

I can’t reverse the spell,

but I bought us some time

before the plane crashes

into the water.

STEPHEN

We need to jump. There

should be life jackets in

here.

Stephen looks in the compartment it should be, and nothing is there. The seats that can be used as a flotation device are also gone. Stephen grabs Emily’s bag.

STEPHEN

We’ll try to stay afloat

with this.

Stephen opens the door, and they both see that they are about fifty feet from the water.

EMILY

This is gonna hurt!

They take a deep breath and jump. They hit the water with a huge splash. They go underwater for about thirty seconds before they resurface. They can see land in the distance, so they swim towards it. When they are far enough away from the plane, they turn around and see the plane crash into the water with tremendous force. It made a huge wave that pushed them a little farther towards the land. Without communicating to each other, they swim towards the land.

Amouraq, Part Three

EXT. MCKINELY AVENUE. AFTERNOON

As Stephen pulls up to the intersection, he sees Emily’s car in the left turn lane. As her sign turns green and she starts to move, a dark green Cadillac drives straight and stops right in front of her, forcing Emily to slam on her breaks and swerve her car a hundred and eighty degrees. A large bald man and small, skinny man (both in black leather jackets) get out of the Cadillac and head towards Emily. Emily gets out of the car and tries to run, but they grab her. Stephen immediately gets out of her car and jumps to the roof of his car. He whips out a silver gun and shoots at the men. The skinny man falls down dead while the large man grabs Emily and runs away. Stephen slides down his car and runs after them. It doesn’t take him long to catch up to them. Stephen grabs the arm that the large man is using to hold Emily, forcing him to drop her, and Stephen slams the man against a nearby brick wall.

STEPHEN

I know what you’re after.

Tell me why.

ASSASSIN

Never!

Emily gets up, makes a claw out of her hands, and points her clawed hand towards the assassin.

EMILY

Truth be told!

The assassin gets a strange look in his eyes.

ASSASSIN

Xavier Ryder sent me. He’s

hidden in the part of Amouraq

where only one man before him

has been.

STEPHEN

The magical part…

The strange look in his eyes is gone, and the large assassin tries to run away. Stephen pounces on him just as Seattle policemen arrive. Stephen shows the policemen his badge, and they let him carry on his business. He starts to walk towards Emily, but she takes a place beside him before he gets to where she was before. They walk down the street together.

EMILY

This is just a wild guess,

but you’re an agent sent

here to guard me?

STEPHEN

Yes, Miss Pageman, I’m

Stephen Knight. But let’s

not discuss anything out

here.

EMILY

Okay, you can follow me

home.

STEPHEN

Lead the way, Miss Pageman.

EMILY

Call me Emily.

STEPHEN

Okay, Emily.

They smile at each other as Emily gets into her car. Stephen notices that she acts very mature for her age. Emily waits for Stephen to get in his car to move. She drives away, and Stephen follows her.

INT. AMELIA’S HOUSE. AFTERNOON.

Stephen and Emily have just explained to Amelia what happened. Amelia and Emily want to know what Stephen plans to do from here.

STEPHEN

I have to go to Amouraq

because Xavier is there,

however, I don’t think

that I should leave Emily

here without protection.

I’m thinking of placing

a couple of body guards

here while I’m a way.

EMILY

I need to go with you.

STEPHEN

That’s out of the question.

I’m sorry, but you don’t

even have any kind of

weapon training.

EMILY

I have an excellent

weapon, and I’ve had

years of training for

it.

Emily and Amelia exchange knowing looks as Stephen looks incredulous.

STEPHEN

What kind of weapon is it?

EMILY

Do you remember that

weird look the assassin

got in his eyes? He told

you everything you needed

to know from him, and

I’m sure you realize

how unusual that is.

STEPHEN

Yeah, that was a little

weird, but has that got

to do with this weapon?

EMILY

He was under a spell.

I’m a sorceress. You

see, the real secret

of Amouraq is that it

is a magical community.

We’ve kept it secret

since the beginning

when a genetic mutation

left certain people with

supernatural abilities.

Naturally, with all of

the problems that could

occur, we hid this from

the coses-

STEPHEN

Coses?

Emily

Unmagical people that

magic exists because

it could destroy our

race or even the balance

of nature. Didn’t your

boss tell you that I

might be a great help

to you?

STEPHEN

(laughs in disbelief)

So what, are you all witches

and wizards like Harry Potter

or something?

EMILY

Not exactly. Sorcerers

and sorceresses are born

with the supernatural

abilities within in them

(for the most part), and

witches and warlocks have

to use magic wands. Witches

and warlocks are also

immortal. All of King

Alexander’s heirs are

mortal sorcerers and

sorceresses unfortunately.

STEPHEN

I’m sorry, but I find

all this hard to believe.

EMILY

Fine, I’ll prove it.

You see those stains you

got from the pursuit?

Emily waves her left hand from right back to left while she says the spell.

EMILY

Optium clerivol.

The stains instantly disappear. Stephen feels both impressed and shocked simultaneously. The idea of people being able to do magic makes him feel a little scared at first. It takes him a moment to speak again.

STEPHEN

Why did King Patrick hire

a cose? I mean,you guys

have these powers, and I

have nothing.

EMILY

The Amouraqian government

tried to solve this

problem, but Xavier is

too powerful. Amouraq

does not have the

expertise on terrorists

and villains that the

United States does. It

takes more than magic to

solve problems, and you’ve

got something that no warlock

or sorcerer does, the experience

and intelligence to catch the

bad guys. Plus, King Patrick

is supposedly psychic, and he

foresaw a victory for us

through, well, you. You

were called to the task, so

trust me, you don’t have

nothing-you’ve got something

special.

Stephen looks as though he is still trying to soak this all in.

AMELIA

You will keep this secret,

won’t you?

STEPHEN

Of course! I’m a secret

agent; secrets are what

I do.

EMILY

We should get going. King

Patrick doesn’t have much

time left, and he’s counting

on us. I’m going to go get

my things.

(exits the room)

AMELIA

Emily has been prepared

for quite some time in

case something like this

happened.

STEPHEN

She seems like a smart

girl.

AMELIA

She is. She had to teach

herself how to do the

majority of her magic

since her father was

never around to do it.

Of course, there’s still

a lot she doesn’t know

because there is so

much out there to learn.

STEPHEN

The best way to do that

is through experience.

I’m sure she’ll be just

fine.

AMELIA

I hope so.

STEPHEN

I won’t let anything

happen to her, I promise!

Emily comes out with a bag that’s packed for a short trip.

STEPHEN

Ready?

EMILY

Just a second.

She gives Amelia a kiss on the cheek.

EMILY

Bye, Grandma!

AMELIA

Goodbye, Emily.

(to both of them)

Be careful, and good luck!

STEPHEN

Thanks.

EMILY

Okay, now I’m ready.

Amouraq, Section Two

INT. AIRPORT. NOON.

Stephen waits at an airport gate with a couple of bags. He thinks about the conversation he just had with his boss and the president and ponders if the concept of magic could possibly exist is true or not. The PILOT of his private jet walks up to him, and it takes Stephen a moment before he realizes that the pilot is standing there.

STEPHEN

Oh, sorry. Just lost in

thought.

PILOT

(sarcastic)

Really? That’s not what

I was going to say you

lost.

STEPHEN

Oh, ha, ha. Is my plane

ready yet?

 PILOT

They’re fixing the brakes

on it. They still work,

but we wanna make sure

it’s a hundred percent.

The government wants to

make sure you come back

alive from each mission,

so we take your safety

very seriously.

STEPHEN

My safety isn’t nearly as

important as the people

I serve.

PILOT

Yes, always noble, I know.

Doesn’t it get lonely being

on this plane by myself all

the time?

STEPHEN

If I had someone, why would

I bring her with me?

PILOT

Well, I’m sure you meet

all kinds of foreign

women you could bring

aboard. I don’t mind

going on a ten or fifteen

minute break if you need it.

STEPHEN

Always the gentleman, aren’t

you?

PILOT

Hey, I’m just looking

out for you. You know

that.

STEPHEN

I know. I’m alright, I’ll

find someone eventually.

There are just more important

things for me to worry about

right now.

The pilot sees Emily’s photo sticking out and picks it up.

PILOT

Who’s the pretty lady?

Stephen snatches the photo out of his hand.

STEPHEN

That’s part of my mission,

and it’s classified information.

PILOT

Right, I understand. Remember

what I said about me taking a

break…

STEPHEN

Shouldn’t you be fixing

my plane?

PILOT

Where are we heading to?

STEPHEN

Seattle.

PILOT

Ah, not so dangerous then?

STEPHEN

We’ll see.

INT./EXT. AMELIA’S HOUSE. AFTERNOON.

Stephen takes his black Jaguar down a lovely, old fashioned

neighborhood full of trees and comfortable-looking houses.

He parks his car on the curb at Emily’s address, he walks up the stone path to the small porch, and he uses the door knocker. AMELIA (an elderly woman with light gray hair tied in a bun and glasses wearing a dress that was probably purchased when she was young) answers the door.

AMELIA

Can I help you?

STEPHEN

(holds up his badge)

Agent Stephen Knight, CIA.

May I come in?

AMELIA

Sure. Would you like

some tea?

STEPHEN

Yes, please.

Stephen enters into the living room, which is filled with old fashioned furniture and aura of warmness. He sits next an end table with a picture of a man smiling and a woman pretending to kiss him. It rests in an ornate, silver frame, and it sits next to an old lamp that shines down on it. Amelia enters the room holding a tray with a teapot and two cups on it. As she sits the tray down on a coffee table, she notices the photo that he is staring at.

AMELIA

Oh, that’s my daughter,

Sylvie, and her husband,

Ronald, on their honeymoon

in Ireland. That was about

two years ago. Eleven years

later, they were killed in

a car crash.

STEPHEN

I’m sorry…Does that mean

you’re Emily’s guardian?

AMELIA

Yes, I’m sorry. I forgot to

introduce myself. I’m

Amelia.

They shake hands.

STEPHEN

Pleasure.

AMELIA

(picks up the photo sadly)

Poor Emily misses them

almost as much as I do.

But I guess, in a way,

it’s better they died this

way, quickly rather than

slowly and painfully like

the current heirs. They

both would’ve died through

this whole affair. Sylvie

would’ve died trying to

protect him, and he would

die trying to save Amouraq.

It’s all been very horrible

I’m assuming that’s why you’re

here.

STEPHEN

The nightmare is gonna

end soon, starting now.

I’m going to protect

your granddaughter and

find out who the murderer

is. You wouldn’t happen to

have any ideas, would you?

Somewhere I could start?

AMELIA

I’m fairly certain I

know who’s doing this.

His name is Xavier Ryder,

and he’s at the very bottom

of the list. He shouldn’t

even be on there! One of

his ancestors raped an heir

around thirteen fifty-seven.

His family has been at war

with Alexander’s ancestors

for ages, and Xavier is

trying to finalize his

family’s evil regime. He

won’t rest until he’s

dictator of Amouraq.

STEPHEN

Wow, that’s terrible. Why

hasn’t the government

suspected him?

AMELIA

I’m sure they have, but

they cant’ prove it. He’s

probably not the only bad

apple on that list either.

That’s just the problem.

Evil as he may be, he’s

a very cunning man. He

thinks he found a way

destroy King Alexander’s

family and country once

and for all. That’s why

you can’t fail! If Xavier

succeeds, Amouraq is truly

doomed.

STEPHEN

Don’t worry; I’ve never

Failed a mission before,

and I certainly won’t fail

one this important.

(beat)

How do you know all this?

AMELIA

Ronald told me all about

it.

STEPHEN

But what makes you so sure

it’s him?

AMELIA

Prove me wrong.

STEPHEN

(shrugs)

It makes sense. It’ll be

hard to find him I bet.

AMELIA

His family locked Alexander’s

hidden forest. Maybe he’s

there.

STEPHEN

Oh good, I was worried that

he’d be somewhere hard to find.

(beat)

If he’s there, how is it that

he’s killed people all over the

world?

AMELIA

Oh, he wouldn’t do it alone.

He has assassins doing his

dirty work for him.

STEPHEN

So, we could learn where

he’s hiding if one of his

assassins comes by and tells

us. They’re killing all over

the world too, so that won’t be

too easy either.

AMELIA

Are your jobs ever easy

though? I’m sure this one

is a little different, and

it’s sort of unsettling to

you, but I’m sure you’ll

prevail as you always have.
STEPHEN

Thanks. I’m not afraid.

AMELIA

Yes, you are, but you’re

brave because you push

your fears aside for

something more important.

You and Emily are so alike!

If you run into Xavier, I’m

sure your courage will get

you through anything he puts

you through. And I’m sure

you’ll do just fine with

any of his assassins since

both you and Emily are much

smarter than the clowns he

hires.

Stephen titters a little. They sip their tea quietly for a moment, and suddenly Stephen’s intuition raises an alarm.

STEPHEN

Where’s Emily right now?

Amelia looks at the big grandfather clock on the other side of the room as he bolts up.

AMELIA

She should be on her way

home from school right now.

It’s not far from here.

Keep driving down this

street half a mile or so

until you hit McKinely Avenue.

She drives a silver Porsche

convertible,or as I call it,

half her inheritance blown

quickly.

STEPHEN

I’m going to make sure

she gets home okay. I’ll

be right back.

AMELIA

I know you will. You’ve

never failed before, right?

Amelia chuckles, and Stephen smiles even though he’s feeling a little anxious about Emily right now. He leaves.

Amouraq, Part 1

**Sorry for the format. It’s hard to transfer the script format to this blog. I might make an easier modification for the next installment!**

INT./EXT. MURDERED HEIRS’ HOUSE. NIGHT.

It looks like a normal suburban home with a stone walkway, two stories, a lawn, a garage, etc. Police tape surrounds the house, and several Amouraqian policemen surround the building. Crime scene investigators ALLEN and VERONICA arrive in a black sedan. They step out of the car and gaze at the scene. Logically, this looks like a completely normal sight for them, but the house seems to be emitting an eerie aura.

ALLEN

So…What happened here?

VERONICA

(looks at the police report)

Homicide. Three victims: a forty-

two year old man, a thirty-six

year old woman, and a twelve

year old child.

ALLEN

(gazing at the house)

Is that all?

VERONICA

I guess we’ll find out.

They go under the police tape and walk into the house. From the entryway, they see a couple of officers taking pictures in the living room, but nothing seems out of the ordinary there. The police sergeant is at the foot of a staircase taking notes with a look on his face that suggests he is fighting the urge to vomit.

Allen and Veronica head upstairs with caution. As they got closer to the scene of the crime, a sense of dread overcomes them. Outside the master bedroom, they exchange grim looks with another police officer. Veronica and Allen walk into the room, and they see the horror that explains everything. Three bodies lie on the floor, but each one had gotten gashed so badly that very little skin remains on the torso! Allen turns away, his mind not wanting to comprehend what he sees. Veronica stares down at the bodies, hardly able to breathe. The faces on the body are in tact and have a permanent state of terror on it.

ALLEN

(still not looking)

It’s him again, or her, the

same person from all those

other times.

VERONICA

It’s strange; each murder has

been different, some more

brutal than others, and yet

it’s certainly the work of

the same lunatic. Each victim

has been an heir to the

Amouraqian throne.

ALLEN

Why? No, we know why they

did it. The real question

is who? It could be an

heir trying to gain power,

or it could be someone

trying to destabilize our

country.

Allen gets the nerve to look at the bodies. Veronica takes out a simple, wooden wand and points it at the man’s dresser. A wallet floats out of her drawer and into her hand. She examines it. Allen stoops down and peers at the daughter’s body.

ALLEN

Look at these slash marks!

They’re deep, and it looks

like the killer didn’t pick

up the knife at all.

VERONICA

He or she probably didn’t.

Veronica finds a piece of paper in his wallet that has three e-ticket flight numbers on it.

VERONICA

Looks like our killer got

here just in time. They have plane

tickets for a flight that is leaving

tomorrow morning.

ALLEN

They knew they were in

trouble, and they were

gonna make a run for it.

The girl saw the killer

coming and ran to her

parents for comfort.

They huddled together in

the corner where this

sicko savaged them. This

morbid excuse for a human

being is getting cocky.

They’re beginning to

enjoy killing, getting a

real taste for blood.

                         VERONICA

               (to the officer right there)

No witnesses, I suppose?

The police officer outside the bedroom sadly shakes his head.

OFFICER

This person left no finger

prints or any evidence at all.

We’re just as baffled as

you are.

The policeman that was taking pictures in the living room comes in to take pictures here. Veronica and Allen step out of the room and go to the living room. They look around and see most things in tact. Veronica sees a bookshelf that has a framed picture of a green dragon surrounding a red heart with a smoky purplish/pink background. The frame has a big crack in the glass.

VERONICA

Allen! Come look at this!

Allen walks over to where she is standing.

VERONICA

Look at the dust. The

picture has been moved.

ALLEN

Interesting. You think

the killer moved it?

VERONICA

The crack suggests that

it was formed under a

hard impact. Look around

and see if you can find

bits of glass.

They use their flashlights to search for the glass. Allen finds the glass against the wall opposite to where the picture rests.

ALLEN

It’s over here, Veronica!

Veronica stoops over to where Allen is pointing the light.

VERONICA

Bingo! The killer hurled

it against the wall. Why?

ALLEN

Isn’t it obvious? This

person hates our country.

VERONICA

What are we going to do?

We’ve had the finest

law enforcement officers

in the country trying

to solve a series of

worldwide murders working

on this. We usually find

our guy by now, but we’ve

been getting nowhere.

ALLEN

I think we’ll have to

find help somewhere

else. The king will

think of something. All

I know is he better

think fast because we

can’t let this person

destroy the people and

the country we are…

PAINTING OF KING ALEXANDER EXPLORING

NARRATOR

Legends tell of a hidden

part of Amouraq that only

King Alexander has set foot

on containing magic. That

is all the rest of the

world knows, and they have

no idea how close they

really are to the secret.

The world assumes that

Amouraq has always been

a country of peace, but

they are deceived. King

Alexander’s ancestors and

descendants have been

fighting a secret war that

only a select few knew of.

For a while, the war seemed

benign, until one day…

INT. WHITE HOUSE. LATE MORNING.

STEPHEN (a 25 year old, handsome man with copper colored hair, a strong jaw line, and a fit body donned in his customary new old fashioned tuxedo) enters the oval office where the PRESIDENT and his boss, Agent PAMELA, wait for him. The president maintains a professional yet friendly manner while Pamela stays serious and uptight, as usual. Stephen has been to this office before, and he coolly takes a seat in front of the president’s desk.

STEPHEN

Hello again, Mister President.

I wish that we could meet

under happier circumstances

for once.

PRESIDENT

Indeed.

STEPHEN

(to Pamela)

I can never tell if you’re

excited to see me or not.

PAMELA

I’m here to work.

STEPHEN

Alright, I get the hint.

No more small talk. What’s

my mission this time?

PRESIDENT

What do you know about the

situation in Amouraq?

STEPHEN

I know just what the news

tells me; an insane

amount of heirs have been

murdered, and the Amouraqian

government has no idea

who’s behind them all. I’m

guessing that’s why I’m

here?

                          PAMELA

                 Yes, but there’s more to

the story than you think.

King Patrick is dying,

and almost fifty heirs

along with an equal

amount of bystanders have

been brutally killed.

Every heir, their family, and

even their friends are all in

danger.

STEPHEN

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph! I

didn’t think it was that

bad!

PRESIDENT

Yes, and it’s more complicated

than you think. I’m going to

reveal to you the secret of

Amouraq, but you’ve got to

promise to keep it unknown.

STEPHEN

Of course I’ll keep it

secret. Secrets are what

I do.

PRESIDENT

There is a list that shows

who is currently in line

for the throne, but this

is not an ordinary list.

It magically shows who are

the strongest descendents

of Amouruaq. It’s not like

a monarchy, let me explain.

King Alexander had two sons,

and his eldest son had three

children while his other son

had none. When King Alexander

died, his eldest son took the

throne. When that son died,

his brother and not his children

took over because he had the

strongest tie to Alexander. All

of the heirs appear on the list

according to how strong of a tie

they have with the first king. The

list is magically updated with births

and deaths, and because it has

magic, it cannot be tampered with.

Does all this make sense?

STEPHEN

I think so. So it’s really

magical? King Alexander got

the paper from a tree in

that part of Amouraq that

only he has ever been to?

PRESIDENT

Exactly. Fifty of his closest

kin have been killed, and as

you said, the Amouraqian

government has no idea who’s

behind it all. The only

suspects they have eliminated

are the ones who have

themselves been eliminated.

King Patrick asked me to

appoint our top agent to the

case, and that’s why I called

you here.

STEPHEN

(grins)

Okay, King Patrick wants me

to find the culprit behind

the murders and protect the

next heir. Who’s next in

                 line?

Pamela plops a manila folder in front of him. A bunch of papers are in it, but the first thing that Stephen sees is a picture of EMILY, who has coffee brown hair, golden brown eyes, and a fair complexion. He stares at the picture for a second.

STEPHEN

                  She’s pretty; she looks

                  like a model.

The president chuckles, and Pamela rolls her eyes.

PAMELA

That’s Emily Pageman. She’s

almost eighteen, and she

lives in Seattle. Everything

you need for this mission

is in that folder. You need

to leave at once. Time is

critical here! We want the

king to pass knowing that

the throne of Amouraq is

secure. You know what to do.

 PRESIDENT

Good luck, and God speed!

                         STEPHEN

I won’t let you down!

(He exits)
